Dr. Cevallos is the Transit Program Director at the Lehman Center for Transportation Research at Florida International University. Dr. Cevallos holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Florida International University (FIU) and a masters’ degree in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University.

He has over 15 years of experience in the field of transportation, with more than 10 of those years in transit operations planning and transit technology. He is the Principal Investigator of the Florida Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS) Program. His past experience includes many transit ITS projects: Bus Stop Inventories, Transit Databases, Electronic Farebox Systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), APTS master plans, Ridership Databases, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems, Automatic Passenger Counters (APCs), and Real-Time Information Systems. Additional projects include the research of Transportation Needs of Special Populations. Project sponsors include the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), and Miami-Dade Transit (MDT).

His research interests include: APTS, GIS, Transit Databases, Optimization Models, Information Technology, Evolutionary Algorithms, Business Intelligence, Data Analysis, Data Mining, and Transit Operations Planning. Dr. Cevallos currently serves as a panel member on TCRP Project A-29: Controlling System Costs: Basic and Advanced Scheduling Manuals and Contemporary Issues in Transit Scheduling and served as panel member on TCRP Project H-28: Uses of Archived AVL/APC Data to Improve Transit Performance and Management and TCRP Synthesis Topic SH-03: Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Transit Planning and Operations.
